Munich: Night Watchman Tour

At dusk or dark, you will receive a torch and be accompanied by the night watchman. Then take a night tour through the dark streets and witness how the legends of yesteryear are brought back to life. The further you progress, the closer you get to the dark side of Munich.

The night stands for the mysterious, for death and transience - but also for rest. In the old days, a certain professional group began their work at night ... ..The task of a night watchman in the Middle Ages was to go through the city and to ensure order and calmness. He also warned the sleeping citizens against fires, thieves and enemies. He supervised the proper closing of the front doors and city gates, it was also part of the night watchman's duties to announce or display the hours, which was a sign that he was doing his duty properly.

The night watchman, although he carried out an important activity in the city, like the hangman or the skinner, was usually among the dishonest occupations and therefore lived mostly in very modest circumstances.
