TUM Excellence |
|
The combination of subjects at TUM is unique in Europe. TUM educates approximately 31,000 students in 156 study programs. Its scientists teach and research across multiple disciplines.
At TUM, students can engage and develop themselves in multiple fields. Many of the student initiatives rely on putting theory into practice (e.g. Akaflieg, TUfast, IKOM).
|
TUM was one of the first "Universities of Excellence" of the nationwide Excellence Initiative and impressed this cooperative in 2006 with its concept of "TUM. The Entrepreneurial University." The Research Area "Cognition for Technical Systems" (CoTeSys) of the Excellence Cluster encompasses intelligent machines, for example, service robots and autonomous work benches. Around 100 researchers work together on CoTeSys under the sponsorship of TUM. In the Excellence Cluster „Origin and Structure of the Universe“ nuclear and particle physicists, cosmologists, astronomers, and astrophysicists work together to shed light on the mysteries of the Universe. The TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) offers freedom to outstanding TUM researchers and leading international scientists for their research in engineering science, natural and life sciences, and medicine. |
|
TUM cooperates with academic institutions worldwide. Students participate in study abroad programs with more than 170 international partner universities. For the most part, TUM selects its own students; the deciding factors are aptitude and talent. After studying, many graduates maintain contact with their alma mater. The international alumni network connects students and alumni, professors, and sponsors. |

As a technical university, TUM promotes entrepreneurial thinking in particular. UnternehmerTUM GmbH accompanies more than 50 teams each year in the development and testing of new business concepts. It enables an early exchange with experts and potential customers. In courting top scientists, TUM makes an attractive offer: Its Dual Career Office attends to the professional prospects of life partners and helps them with their own job search. |
The Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source (FRM II) is the world’s most versatile high-flux neutron source. Research with neutrons attempts to answer questions pertaining to the origin and structure of matter.
The TUM University Hospital rechts der Isar has approximately 4,500 employees and 33 clinics and divisions. Approximately 55,000 patients benefit yearly from the highest level of in-patient medical care and an additional 220,000 patients benefit from outpatient care. |
