The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) represent a set of unprecedented efforts which countries around the globe and the world’s leading development institutions have undertaken in order to meet the needs of the world’s poorest people. These efforts have brought together a considerable number of professionals of different fields and from all over the world, who have committed themselves to contributing to the development of a more equitable world. Clearly, there has been progress towards implementing these goals, but, halfway to the 2015 deadline, the overall success is still far from satisfactory, and many targets still need more consideration and stronger efforts. It is this frame which brings us now together and gives us the idea of organizing the conference “Policy meets Land Management: Contributions to the Achievement of the MDGs”, in which we intend to reflect on the German contribution to the achievement of the goals which are particularly closer to the wider field of Land Management and, in this context, to discuss about the state of affairs and what path should we follow in the future if we want to truly achieve this goals and effectively help reducing poverty and delivering equity around the world.
