Bullets flying around corners ? From Hollywood to the future battlefield. Richard Arning – Head of Division for Smart Munition, German-French Defence Research Institute Saint-Louis (ISL). Open Lecture, no registration required.
For centuries the art of ballistics, from Galileo over Newton to Euler, had been refined. The job of a marksman or gunner didn’t seem change anymore – until the advent of guided or smart ammunition – and drones.
As Hollywood pictures mind steerable bullets, real-time space surveillance and intelligent drone swarms, this future battlefield is closer than you might think.
The presentation from the defence research labs of Saint-Louis, a joined institution of the German and French ministries of defence, will provide bullet-proof insights into current developments and an outlook in modern gun warfighting, from small to big calibres. It will answer the questions if and how we will be able to guide bullets around bends, if we will be actually able to see around corners, how navigation works for a precision hit, why you won’t be able to hide on the battlefield anymore and what role drones might play for the shooter.
The bombshell event will be rounded up with an open
exchange in the plenum - join us for Pretzels & Beer!
