On November 10th, Hans Fischer Senior Fellow Prof. Őrs Legeza, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Theoretical Solid State Physics Department will talk at our TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee Talk.

Title: Numerical simulation of quantum many-body systems via tensor network state methods

Date: November 10th, 2021

Time: 13:00 (until approx.14:00)

Abstract: The numerical simulation of interacting quantum many body systems is an utmost important task in modern physics, chemistry and material science. The accurate computation of the electron correlation is a fundamental and extremely difficult problem in this context. Due to the enormous developments in the past decade -- made from different perspectives for different purposes in distinct communities -- tensor network state methods have already matured to provide a variety of tools to attack highly challenging strongly correlated electronic problems in quantum many body systems and in quantum chemistry that are intractable by standard techniques. In this contribution, we introduce recent achievements of this continuously growing new field of research. Selected results will be shown for extended periodic systems in one- and two dimensions, for topologically protected end spins in carbon nanotubes, for transition metal complexes, for graphene nanoribbons and Wigner crystals.

Location: Hybrid format: Auditorium of the TUM Institute for Advanced Study, Lichtenbergstr. 2a, Garching; simultaneously via Zoom (to get access information, please e-mail events@ias.tum.de). Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic, all TUM buildings are currently subject to the “3G rule” (access only to persons that are vaccinated, tested or recovered). There is a testing facility down the road at the StudiTUM building (Lichtenbergstr. 3; https://schnelltest-studitum.de/).

Registration: The TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee talks are currently held in a hybrid format. To register, please send an email to events@ias.tum.de indicating whether you will be participating online or on-site.
