Workshop by TUM-IAS Focus Group Aircraft Stability & Control: “Handling Qualities Research in Russia“

Dienstag 05.07.2011, 14:30 - 17:15

Veranstaltungsort:

TUM Institute for Advanced Study, Auditorium, (Room 0.001, ground floor), Lichtenbergstraße 2 a, 85748 Garching

Vortragender
Prof. A. V. Efremov, PhD; Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI); Dean of Aeronautical School

The workshop is organized by the TUM-IAS Focus Group “Aircraft Stability & Control” chaired by TUM-IAS Rudolf Diesel Industry Fellow Dr. Matthias Heller and his TUM Host Prof. Florian Holzapfel (TUM Institute of Flight System Dynamics):

Speaker:

Prof. A. V. Efremov, PhD Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) Dean of Aeronautical School

Prof. Dr. Alexander Efremov is head of flight dynamics and control department since 1999 and dean of MAI Aeronautical School since 2007. Since 30 years he is doing research in the fields of flight dynamics and control, man-machine systems, simulators and pilot behavior. His expertise is highly respected among international public and military scientific research centers. With more than 240 publications and as lecturer for U.S. Air Force, NATO, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and so on, he is well known to engineers in the field of manned flight control and pilot modeling.

Abstract:

The investigations of pilot-aircraft systems have its own 60 years history. Systematic investigations of pilot behavior regularities in closed-loop system are fulfilled in the MAI at dynamics of flight and control department since 1975 with goal to receive the results for solution of applied manual control problems of highly augmented aircraft (exposing interaction between pilot and aircraft). This talk will give an overview about Handling Qualities Research in Russia with focus of the work performed at the MAI. In detail the progress in pilot-vehicle system investigations will be explained with respect to new regularities, pilot modeling and the application of pilot-vehicle system approach to different manual control tasks. A brief overview of problems and solutions in development of highly augmented flight control system will conclude the presentation.
