Guided Tour “Hitler’s Munich” & Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site
Sonntag 01.05.2011, 08:00 - 16:00
In June the subject of our excursion is: National Socialism in Germany. We will have a guided tour in Munich and go to the memorial site in Dachau.
The guided tour “Hitler’s Munich” gives you the possibility to visit some of the places which were important during the time of the third Reich (i.e. Königsplatz or the building which nowadays houses the “Musikhochschule”). You will get more information about National Socialism - a dark chapter in German history – and about the role that the city of Munich played in that time.
After the tour in Munich we will go to the nearby city of Dachau where we will visit the Memorial Site on the grounds of the former concentration camp Dachau. The concentration camp was set up for political prisoners on March 22, 1933 - a few weeks after Adolf Hitler had been appointed Reich Chancellor. This camp served as a model for all later concentration camps and as a "school of violence" for the SS men under whose command it stood.
Between 1996 and 2003 a new exhibition on the history of the Dachau concentration camp was created, following the leitmotif of the "Path of the Prisoners".” We will have a guided tour, watch a documentary about the concentration camp and then have some time to visit the site on our own.
