Exkursion
Excursion to Herrenchiemsee
Sonntag 18.04.2010, 08:30 - 20:00
In April we will visit the island Herenchiemsee including the Palace of Herrenchiemsee and the King Ludwig II museum. The event is part of the "CULTURAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCHERS AND FRIENDS" organized by the TUM International Office.
In 1873 King Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired the Herreninsel (Bavaria’s largest island located in the lake Chiemsee being about one hour south-east of Munich) as the location for his Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee (New Palace). Modelled on Versailles, this palace was built as a "Temple of Fame" for King Louis XIV of France, whom the Bavarian monarch fervently admired.
We will first have a guided tour through the Palace of Herrenchiemsee and visit the King Ludwig II museum which documents the story of Ludwig II's life from his birth to his tragic early death with painted portraits, busts, historic photographs and original state robes. You will then have some free time to stroll in the beautiful gardens of the park of Herrenchiemsee, to visit the Augustinian Monastery or to go to the neighbor island Frauenchiemsee where you can visit an old monastery. Please bring you own lunch package!
Later on we will all meet again on the mainland in Prien am Chiemsee where we will invite you to a typically German ‚Kaffee und Kuchen‛ (Coffee and cake) before we take the train back to Munich at about 6:30 p.m.
When: April 18th, 2010 at 8:30 a.m.
Meeting Place: Will be announced later
Language: The tour will be in English.
Price: 16 EUR (to be paid until April 8th, 2010)
Registration: By email to Wihi-winkler@zv.tum.de before April 6th, 2010
