Exkursion
Excursion to the palaces of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau
Samstag 17.07.2010, 08:30 - 19:30
We will visit the palaces of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau where we will have guided tours. The event is part of the "CULTURAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCHERS AND FRIENDS" organized by the TUM International Office.
During this excursion we will have a guided tour (about 30 min.) through the famous Castle Neuschwanstein which was commissioned by the so called ‚fairy tale‛ king Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1886. Neuschwanstein illustrates the ideals and longings of Ludwig II more vividly than any of his other buildings. The castle was not designed for royal representation, but as a place of retreat. Here Ludwig II escaped into a dream world - the poetic world of the Middle Ages.
Nearby Neuschwanstein there is the Castle Hohenschwangau where King Ludwig II spent his childhood. His father Crown prince Maximilian of Bavaria acquired the ruin of Schwanstein Castle in 1832 and had it rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. We will have a guided tour through the castle.
Afterwards you will have some free time to walk to the Marienbrücke. The bridge above the Pöllat canyon allows you to enjoy a great panoramic view on the castle with the lake Alpsee in the background. You can also stroll to the beautiful Alpsee which is surrounded by mountain sides. Please bring your own lunch to this event!
