"Computational Bone-Mechanics" - A patient-specific combined engineering/clinical treatment approach

Tuesday 10.11.2009, 16:30 - 17:30

Venue:

Hörsaal 1180 / Hauptgebäude

Speaker
Prof. Dr. Zohar Yosibash, Ben-Gurion University, Israel

Advanced simulations, usage of patient-specific CT scans and detailed sets of experiments provide the opportunity to revolutionize orthopedic clinical treatment and generate a Computer Aided Patient Specific Orthopedic (CAPSO) tool to be used on a daily basis by clinicians to treat bone related diseases as osteoporosis, metastasis/benign lesions and fracture. This talk concentrates on the femur for which an overview of the healthy and pathological bone's mechanics will first be presented. Thereafter the applications of CAPSO to total hip replacement procedures and estimation of risk of fracture in bones with metastatic/benign lesions will be discussed. This talk is on a more popular level and mathematical equations kept to minimum.
