Live and Research in Germany – Intercultural insights

Sonntag 15.11.2009, 10:00 - 18:00

Did you arrive recently to Munich and find everything very complicated, no matter if at work or in everyday life or do you experience that even though you have been here for a while some things are just weird? Then come and join this interactive workshop.

Two professional trainers will look with you beyond the German culture, by comparing specifics of your culture and the German one and by analysing some very subtle cultural differences. They will discuss questions like “What impact does my culture of origin and my behavior have on research and life in Germany?” with you and will develop strategies on how to cope with possible problems or a “culture shock”. Although there will be a focus on academic work and
research on the one hand side, the trainers will also interactively simulate different situations of everyday life so that also your partner/children are very welcome to participate. For lunch we will invite you to a traditional German Schnitzel at the restaurant “Steinheil”.

Price: Free of charge, drinks for lunch
Deposit: EUR 10,- per person (to be paid until Nov. 5th, 2009 ; refund at the event)
Registration: By email to Wihi-winkler@zv.tum.de before October 28th, 2009

This event is part of the "CULTURAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCHERS AND FRIENDS" organized by the TUM International Office:
The program that has been newly established was specifically designed for all international postdoc researchers, guest lecturers and professors as well as their partners and children. It is aimed at showing you a few more facets of TUM, Munich and Bavaria to help you to feel at home during your stay as well as facilitate the networking among each other and with your German counterparts. Therefore the program is open to everyone who wants to join and if you like and places are available you can also bring your friends along.
