Many emerging countries are experiencing a food crisis. The demand for food in growing economies such as India and China, and the increased utilization of crops for energy, are changing the face of global agricultural production. Crop production has to be increased to meet this challenge. Farmers in emerging countries, however, have insufficient working capital available to increase production. The current financial crisis and volatile commodity prices have made this even harder. This presentation will cover how a small company in South Africa called Agrista, has utilized software technologies to meet this challenge. It is now planning to expand into other emerging markets with a head office in Munich. The company has developed a range of software technologies that it now intends to integrate into an ambitious online software platform that allows farmers and agribusinesses to efficiently exchange information and connect business processes. This platform creates the essential transparency required by financiers and investors based in Europe and the USA to increase finance available for agriculture production in emerging economies.
