The computational molecular medicine lab is a lively, international, and interdisciplinary computational biology group with a research focus on the genetic basis of gene regulation and its implication in diseases. We are located in the informatics department of the Technical University of Munich, one of the top-ranked European universities. Our lab has strong links to other local scientists and institutions in biology and medicine but also close connections to the Leibniz Rechenzentrum (LRZ), one of the top 20 supercomputers in the world. Our team is part of the newly established German Human Genome Archive (GHGA) consortium, a national secure and trustworthy network of data centres for archiving, processing and serving human genome sequencing and other omics data for biomedical research. Job description We are looking for a software developer or system architect to implement, operate, and further develop an Openstack platform together with the LRZ and GHGA to run Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows and analyse omics data in a high-throughput environment. The successful candidate will not only be part of the local bioinformatics research and cloud management team but also be part of the nationwide GHGA consortium. Together with the different teams, the candidate will develop and apply a diverse range of state-of-the-art methodology to improve the Openstack infrastructure and the NGS workflows. This includes a range of diverse tasks like cloud and system administration, authentication and data security, workflow development and (web) software development. The research group “Fluid Dynamics of Complex Biosystems” headed by Prof. Dr. Natalie Germann has an open position in the field of computational rheology. Area of research The research of Professor Germann’s fluid dynamics group focuses on the rheology of viscoelastic fluids that are of industrial relevance (e.g. wormlike micelles, polymeric solutions). The reason for the unusual rheological properties of viscoelastic fluids is their microstructural dynamics. To establish a more fundamental understanding of viscoelastic fluids, her research group investigates the relationship between their rheology and their microstructure. The research approach combines thermodynamic modeling and numerical simulation with laboratory experiments. Your project The collaborative project “Teigrheologie und Oberflächeneigenschaften” (AiF 6474/15 N) between the groups of Profs. N. Germann and Th. Becker is on the relationship between the bulk and surface rheology of dough. The aim is to build a CFD toolbox that can predict the quality of dough already during dough processing. For the validation of the CFD toolbox, experimental data will be provided by the project partner. He/she should be able to work independently as well as to cooperate in an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Background: A challenging aspect of sharing and visualizing academic topics, like the project HELIOP - Helicopter Ship Deck Operations, is related to its content and presentation in an eye catching and good to understand way. The project HELIOP focuses on helicopter offshore operations and how to navigate and land on a moving ship deck, because of limited navigation capabilities due to the open sea and influences of the moving landing zone on pilot performance. To reduce pilot workload and increase flight safety during navigation, descent, and landing maneuver, a pilot fitted presentation of the outside world events and helicopter was designed and implemented to the helicopter flight simulator Rotorcraft Simulation Environment – ROSIE via a Helmet Mounted Display - HMD. Scope of Work: This bachelor thesis / term project (Semesterarbeit) /master thesis aims to create a public relation presence of the project HELIOP and the designed Pilot Assistance System (PAS). In central the design and creation of a short video including main topics as ROSIE, PAS, and the HMD is in the focus.
