Your research and responsibilities: In plants, patterning by cell division relies on division plane establishment, on the biogenesis of a membrane compartment called the cell plate, and on cell plate insertion at the division site. The processes of cell plate guidance and insertion are poorly understood. Lipids are increasingly recognized as important membrane landmarks, but whether specific lipids mark the division site has yet to be investigated. Your activities will address the following questions: i) how are lipids sorted at the expanding cell plate or division site? ii) does lipid sorting require a Rab Guanine nucleotide Exchange Factor? iii) conversely, do lipid landmarks regulate Guanine nucleotide Exchange Factor function? Your results will considerably further our understanding of the establishment, recognition and function of membrane microdomains. This is a collaborative, interdisciplinary project. In cutting-edge facilities, the project spans a broad range techniques: lipid biosensors, lipid click-chemistry, inducible depletion of lipids by optogenetics, super-resolution microscopy, targeted immuno-isolation of membrane complexes, proteomics and lipidomics.

Context: The Smart Energy Living Lab demonstrator installed at fortiss represents a self-balancing prosumer (producer and consumer) that can be seen as smart grid node. The systems integrates regenerative energy production and storage with an office automation systems that is equipped with sensors and actuators. The software solution stack (SMG2), developed at fortiss, autonomously monitors and controls the devices by an adaptable rule system and user interaction via mobile apps. Objective: For controlling and monitoring various renewable energy and storage devices, WAGO (www.wago.com) offers an expandable system that is already used in the field of system automation. The objective is to connect WAGO to the Living Lab system by establishing a communication with WAGO system and use SMG2 for control and monitor it from external applications. Therefore Wago (which has a Embedded Linux as Operating System) offers a way to run an OPC UA (https://opcfoundation.org/) server on it. This Server application has to be compiled and installed on the WAGO System. Then, an OPC UA Client has to be implemented into the SMG2 as a separate bundle using Java. Tasks: 1) Getting to know the Living Lab demonstrator 2) Getting to know the WAGO System 3) Create an OPC UA server package 4) Install the OPC UA server on WAGO 5) Integrate a new actuator client bundle as OPC UA Client into SMG2 Knowledge: 1) Good Java, Eclipse knowledge (OSGi would be good but is not mandatory) 2) Knowledge in Linux Systems (nice would be knowledge hot to use Cmake) 3) Willing to acquire knowledge in embedded Linux For more information contact Markus Duchon: duchon@foriss.org or 089-360352230
