We are looking for a motivated Ph.D. student interested in developing novel processes using C1 chemistry that help to mitigate climate change effects. Since over 10 years, we are developing such processes con-cepts together with other research groups and industrial partners, and always aim at bringing the processes up to demonstration scale at our technology lab in Straubing. In their project, the candidate will develop con-cepts, measure physical and chemical property data in dedicated measurement stands, implement and per-form process simulations, and plan and operate demonstration plants.

The gut microbiome plays a fundamental role in health and disease. CRC 1371 (Speaker Prof. Dr. Dirk Haller) focuses on the digestive tract and proposes an interdisciplinary approach to elucidate the functional relevance of microbiome signatures in the context of inflammation and cancer. Within CRC 1371, the Integrated Research Training School (IRTG) provides a qualification program for PhD students containing excellent multidisciplinary training with tailor-made subject-based and soft skills courses, annual retreats, summer school, and a supervision concept. Traditional Fourier analysis has been an important tool in scientific and engineering applications for many years. However, it does not readily capture non-stationary and local features, which are inherently present in many dynamic phenomena. The lecture will focus on modern time-frequency analysis techniques for capturing localized effects and evolutionary frequency content by using wavelets and other related techniques. These techniques can be construed as “mathematical microscopes” and allow representation of complex problems with gradually increasing degree of detail and resolution. These techniques will be presented with a historical perspective and in context with several engineering applications; they will be used for analyzing both recorded ground accelerograms and linear/nonlinear seismic responses of benchmark structures. However, they are applicable as well to a plethora of other themes. Related general topics and an entertaining intuition defying problem will be also discussed.
