BA/MA/IDP: Ontology based extension of inter-organizational Configuration Management Databases to support IT Service Management

01.09.2010, Diplomarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

IT services are increasingly provided within cooperation of various IT service providers. A new trend herby is the so called Cloud Computing. In IT Service Management, the discipline of configuration management aims to support the management by providing an appropriate management information base, which is called Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

Goal of this thesis: Within this work the configuration management of cooperating IT providers should be improved with the help of an Ontology based extension of an existent inter-organizational Configuration Management Database. This work is done in the scenario of the IT of Technische Universität München itself and its major IT service provider, the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ). These organizations are cooperating to provide IT services for students and staff like internet access or file services. For the management of these services TUM has already introduced a tool (OTRS – Open Ticket Request System, www.otrs.org). This tool is containing information about the set up of our services. The information is held within a relational data base, which has several disadvantages. To improve the situation it is a task of this work, to transform the existent information model into an ontology based representation. The following approach is suggested: - Study of current literature in this field - Analysis of existent data model - Transformation of data base into ontology based representation
