Master's Thesis: Design and Implementation of a Physical Wheelchair Simulator

In the context of this master's thesis, a physical wheelchair simulator will be designed, implemented and linked to the already existing interface

Ongoing urbanization requires complex planning processes to make urban growth sustainable. One trend is the development of urban digital twins that support both the planning and management of cities and the involvement of civil society. Through virtual reality applications, citizens can experience digital twins of cities and be involved in the planning process. It is important to give every citizen a chance to be integrated into the planning process, because independent mobility in public space is of enormous importance for the social participation of all people. For people with limited mobility, it is important to be able to test their everyday form of mobility within virtual scenarios as well. To make this experience as real as possible for wheelchair users, we want to build a wheelchair simulator. At our chair, a wheelchair interface already exists in Unity, which can be used to roll through virtual landscapes using VR goggles. In the context of this work, a physical simulator will be designed, implemented and linked to the already existing interface.
