Master thesis in Immunology- Immunological characterization of an animal model for IBD using non-invasive and invasive monitoring of inflammation
The project aims to characterize inflammatory processes in an animal model of IBD and is located at the Chair of Infection Pathogenesis. A focus will be placed on the comparison of inflammation markers in saliva, feces, blood, and tissue, thereby contrasting non-invasive sampling with classical invasive approaches. This strategy is expected to provide valuable insights into the suitability of saliva and feces for monitoring inflammation in this model.
Responsibilities:
The student will be involved in processing and analysing animal samples (saliva, feces, blood and tissue) and in primary cell culture, with a focus on monitoring inflammation using immunological techniques. Specifically, the work include:
1. Processing of saliva and fecal samples
2. Isolation and cultivation of immune cells from blood, lymph nodes and Peyer’s patches
3. Assessment of inflammatory parameters by ELISA
4. Assessment of inflammatory parameters by flow cytometry
The candidate will gain hands-on experience in immunology, primary cell culture techniques, flow cytometry and ELISA.
Requirements:
We seek a highly motivated, structured, and reliable student of MBT, Biology, Biochemistry or similar disciplines. A successful candidate should already have a good knowledge of immunology. A good command of English, both spoken and written, is essential.
