Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and Health, one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching. Within the school, the position is part of the TUM Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology (IPT), which has a strong international reputation in the characterization and therapeutic development of nucleic acid targets in the cardiovascular and pulmonary system. The DFG Collaborative Research Centre TRR267 “Non-coding RNA in the Cardiovascular System” and the BMBF-funded "Cluster for Nucleic Acid Therapeutics Munich (CNATM)”, state-of-the-art equipment and methodology at the IPT, as well as the collaborative scientific environment at TUM and the greater Munich area facilitate excellence in research.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the field who focuses on nucleic acids with regulatory roles in disease and their therapeutic manipulation. Candidates should have a strong track record in technologies for nucleic acid analysis and characterization.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs and its medical curriculum.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information).
In addition, the interest and ability to work in collaborative research networks, especially in the field of nucleic acid research (e.g. TRR 267, CNATM), and the proven ability to acquire independent competitive third-party funding from renowned funding organizations (e.g. DFG and ERC) are expected.
