In connection with the appointment of a new Director at the Walther-Meißner-Institute (WMI), the Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Professor in » Solid-State Quantum Systems « The position is a tenured W3 Associate or Full Professor position; to begin as soon as possible.
Scientific environment
The
Walther-Meißner-Institut (WMI) of
the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a leading research
institution in the fields of low-temperature physics, superconductivity, and
magnetism as well as in the area of quantum technologies based on
superconducting quantum circuits and hybrid quantum systems. Filling the third
director position at the WMI will further expand and strengthen the connection
between these areas. The director position will be assigned to the TUM School
of Natural Sciences through a W3 associate/full professorship, thus providing
an excellent environment for research and teaching.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as
well as the promotion of young scientists. We are looking for an expert in the
field of experimental low-temperature physics with a focus on superconducting,
spin, topological, magnonic, mechanical, or other quantum degrees of freedom
that are quantum-technologically relevant and/or have potential for use in
novel quantum systems. Ideally, the successful candidate will contribute with a
broad program in basic research to the development of future solid-state-based
quantum technologies at TUM, thus supporting a central goal of Munich Quantum
Valley. The successful candidate will be entrusted with managing the WMI in
collegial cooperation with the Board of Directors and is expected to actively
contribute to the further development of the institute. Teaching
responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master

equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are
prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad and a successful track
record in securing competitive national and international third-party funding
are expected.
Our Offer
Based on the best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career path from a permanent position as Associate Professor to Full Professor. The regulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
TUM and WMI offer excellent working conditions in a
lively scientific community embedded in the vibrant research environment of the
Greater Munich Area. The TUM environment is multicultural, with English as a
common interface for scientific interaction. TUM offers attractive and
performance-based salary conditions and social benefits. The TUM Munich Dual Career
