Scientific Environment
The professorship is assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and Health, one of the strongest medical faculties in Germany in terms of research and teaching. The professor will manage the clinical Department of Cardiovascular Diseases at the TUM University Hospital German Heart Center. The TUM University Hospital, with its focus on cardiovascular medicine, is one of the largest university centers for comprehensive cardiovascular care and is dedicated to scientific excellence. The cooperation with the Munich Heart Alliance, the German Center for Cardiovascular Diseases (DZHK), the scientists and physicians at the TUM University Hospital Rechts der Isar, the data sciences and life sciences at TUM, as well as in the interdisciplinary research environment of the greater Munich area enable excellence in research and teaching. Outstanding clinical and scientific infrastructure including state-of-the-art platforms for data integration provide an important basis.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching, the promotion of early-career scientists, as well as the management and strategic development of clinical care. We are looking for an expert with broad expertise in cardiovascular research, addressing innovation and relevant scientific questions. Teaching responsibilities include participation in the advertised subject as well as in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs at TUM.
The professorship plays a central role in cardiovascular medicine at the TUM University Hospital and should advance the field through its innovative, forward-thinking, and integrative approach. This includes establishing and further developing the discipline in an interdisciplinary manner in collaboration with other specialties at the TUM University Hospital, ensuring a future-oriented perspective.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with an exceptional international research and teaching reputation and an established academic record through an internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites, as well as the specialist certification in internal medicine - cardiology and extensive clinical leadership experience. International research experience, commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, proven ability to successfully apply for and take over the lead of collaborative research projects from recognized funding bodies (e.g. ERC, DFG), as well as extensive experience and active commitment to the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists are expected.

As a rule, the holder of this professorship will not be employed as a civil servant (Beamte) under German law. The duties related to patient care as Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases at the German Heart Centre Munich including the right to bill additional fees, will be regulated separately through a head physician contract with the university hospital’s board of management.
