The position is a tenured W3 position. The future holder of this position will be appointed as a Full Professor at TUM and will be granted leave of absence with a reduced teaching load in order to lead the Leibniz-LSB@TUM (Jülich model).

 

Scientific Environment

At TUM, the professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Life Sciences. The Leibniz-LSB@TUM comprises a unique and world-leading research profile at the interface of Food Chemistry and Biology, Chemosensors and Technology, and Bioinformatics and Machine Learning. Leibniz-LSB@TUM’s aim is to develop new approaches for the sustainable production of sufficient quantities of foods whose biologically active effector molecule profiles are geared towards health and nutritional needs, but also towards the sensory preferences of consumers. The professorship will have access to the research infrastructure within Leibniz-LSB@TUM as well as institutes and core facilities available at TUM, including the BayBioMS, the ZIEL and the Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI).

 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include managing the Leibniz-LSB@TUM, as well as research, teaching and the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of chemosensory food systems with a focus on structural decoding and functional reconstruction of chemosensory signatures of foods and beverages, next-generation technologies in food- and flavoromics, food-born bio-actives and systems biology. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs, specifically within the field of food science, for example in the programs Food Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition and Biomedicine, and Food Technology and Biotechnology.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with an exceptional international research and teaching reputation and an established academic record through an internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Research experience abroad is expected. Proven ability to attract third-party funding as well as key expertise in management and setting up scientific collaborations are also expected.
