The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Professor in » Bioprocess Intensification « W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) or W3 Associate Professor; to begin in summer semester 2025.
Scientific environment
The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the TUM School of Engineering and Design. Furthermore, the professorship will be affiliated with the Institute of Integrated Materials, Energy and Process Engineering (MEP) – Focus Area Biomanufacturing and Process Engineering.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Bioprocess Intensification with a focus on the development and intensification of processes in which microorganisms (e.g. recombinant Escherichia coli or yeast cultures) or mammalian cell lines (e.g. CHO cells) produce macromolecules such as antibodies, plasmids, enzymes, DNA, mRNA, virus-like particles. Upstream processing can focus on parallelization, miniaturization or the development of new continuous concepts, including the integration of downstream processing (e.g. perfusion reactors). Teaching responsibilities include participation in TUM’s Bachelor and Master degree programs, in particular in the Industrial Biotechnology, Energy and Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Bioprocess Engineering degree programs.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information).
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
