The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Full Professor of » Neonatology « to begin as soon as possible. The position is a tenured W3 position. The professor will be appointed Director of the Department for Neonatology at the TUM University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar and senior physician of the Neonatology Unit at the Klinikum Dritter Orden.

Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and Health, one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. The Full Professorship of Neonatology is integrated into an excellent clinical and scientific environment and ensures care in the sense of the Level 1 perinatal centres at the Klinikum Dritter Orden and the TUM University Hospital. The focus on prevention and paediatrics at the TUM School of Medicine and Health and beyond offer excellent opportunities for cooperation.

 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching, patient care as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert with a visible scientific and clinical profile who can represent the field in its entirety and strengthen the research and teaching profile of TUM Paediatrics. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the subject area and in the general basic subjects of the TUM School of Medicine and Health as well as courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. 


Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with an exceptional research and teaching reputation and an established international academic visibility. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. A board certification in Pediatrics with specialization in neonatology is required.

Substantial leadership competences in a clinical organization with corresponding leadership quality are required, as well as experience in the management of a level 1 perinatal center. In addition, proven ability in the acquisition of competitive third-party funded projects is expected.

Successful applicants will be characterized by their communication skills, their willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with relevant colleagues from the TUM School of Medicine and Health and other schools, and their interest in actively participating in research networks.

As a rule, the holder of this professorship will not be employed as a civil servant (Beamte) under German law. The duties related to patient care at the clinical units including the right to bill additional fees, will be regulated separately through a head physician contract with the TUM board of management.
