Full Professor of »Vascular and Endovascular Surgery«

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Full Professor of »Vascular and Endovascular Surgery« to begin on 1 October 2023. The professorship is a tenured W3 position. The professor will be appointed Director of the Department for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar.

Scientific environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. The Department for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery is one of the leading academic departments for vascular surgery in Germany. Close cooperation with the Munich Heart Alliance and the DZHK, the German Heart Centre Munich as well as close cooperation with the TUM School of Natural Sciences and the TUM School of Engineering and Design foster the potential for excellence in clinical as well as translational research. Leadership and /or participation in collaborative research projects is highly encouraged.

The responsibilities of the position include all aspects of research, teaching and patient care, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery with focus on clinical and translational research. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the subject area as well as courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. Qualifications We are looking for a high-profile candidate with an international reputation, who has demonstrated an outstanding academic record and an internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. A medical license with specialization in vascular surgery is required.
Substantial clinical and leadership competence for organizing a vascular surgical clinic, as well as research experience abroad, and a proven ability to establish, acquire and lead competitive, third-party funded and cooperative research projects are required.
Candidates are expected to be fully committed to collaborate with scientists at the TUM School of Medicine and at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar, as well as with scientist at other TUM schools and academic departments, and to participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations.

As a rule, the holder of this professorship will not be employed as a civil servant (Beamte) under German law. The duties related to patient care as Director of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, including the right to bill additional fees, will be regulated separately through a head physician contract with the university hospital’s board of management.
