Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Clinical Microbiome «

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Clinical Microbiome « to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.

Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching. TUM School of Medicine has with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. Its strong collaboration with other departments and Schools at TUM is facilitated by multiple institutionalized partnerships like German Health Centers as well as several comprehensive joint research projects (e.g. CRC 1371, CRC 1335, CRC 1321). The professorship will be part of the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar and will be assigned to a clinic reflecting the scientific focus of the successful candidate.
The professorship will support microbiome research at the interface of clinical and experimental research at the ZIEL – TUM Institute for Food & Health located at Campus Weihenstephan. Integration into collaborative research including the DFG funded Collaborative Research Center “Microbiome Signatures” (CRC 1371) provides an excellent scientific environment.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research, teaching and patient care as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of translational microbiome research to establish innovative ways in diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases, cancer, or metabolic disease. The professorship will establish models and tools to identify clinically-relevant mechanisms of microbe-host interactions by using cutting-edge gnotobiotic and tissue culture methodologies. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs explicitly in the master program Nutrition and Biomedicine.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information). Proven ability to attract competitive third-party funding and to collaborate in integrated research networks is expected. The translation of experimental results into the clinical application, a certification as medical specialist or intended qualification as physician resident in a relevant discipline is required. Special knowledge in microbiology, microbiome analyses and/or experience in clinical-experimental research including animal and tissue models is expected.
