We are seeking, by March or April 2026, a PostDoc to work on the synthesis and characterization of soluble silicon clusters. The project is experimentally oriented and well-suited for candidates with a solid background in synthetic inorganic or organometallic chemistry.

Postdoctoral Researcher for Synthesis in Molecular Inorganic Chemistry

Institution: Chair of Inorganic Chemistry with Focus on Novel Materials (TUM), Garching

Start date: March or April 2026
Duration: 1.5 years (with possibility of extension)
Employment volume: 100% of standard working time
Salary: E13 TV-L (in accordance with the German TV-L salary scale)

Project Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the synthesis and characterization of soluble silicon clusters. The project is experimentally oriented and suited for candidates with a strong background in synthetic inorganic or organometallic chemistry.

The main focus of this position is research in inorganic and organometallic chemistry with emphasis on synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and structural analysis of molecular silicon clusters.

Contract Details

  • Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate
  • Duration: 1.5 years (extension possible)
  • Location: Technical University of Munich, Garching, Germany
  • Salary: E13 TV-L (100%), according to the German public service salary scale

Responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting inorganic and organic chemical syntheses
  • Independent and creative development of the research project
  • Evaluation and interpretation of experimental results
  • Presentation of results in group meetings and conferences
  • Preparation of publications
  • Maintenance of laboratory standards and equipment
  • Co-supervision and teamwork with students
  • German language skills are an advantage but not required

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry
  • Experience in preparative inorganic and/or organometallic chemistry
  • Experience with functionalization and characterization methods
  • Experience with inert-gas techniques (Schlenk line, glove box)
  • Experience with standard analytical methods (NMR, MS, IR, UV/Vis)

Career Development

There is the possibility (optional) to develop independent research proposals or to prepare for a junior group or habilitation.
