TUMSpotlight: The »English Writing Center«

Writing something in English? I need help! The TUM's English Writing Center English Writing Center provides assistance with any kind of text. Doctoral, Master's or Bachelor’s theses, publications in English or applications for a course of studies or an internship abroad – everyone can bring along his or her own particular text.

Assistance from native speakers
Native writing coaches help you to improve your linguistic and stylistic skills. TUM is one of the first universities in Germany to offer an on-campus »English Writing Center« for students and scientists (Arcisstrasse 19, Room 001, next to the canteen / Mensa).
The center offers professional support for self-help, focusing on the author of the text. As Dr. Stephen Starck, member of TUM's Writing Center and the English coaching team, explains: »We’re here to help writers discover their strengths and learn how to improve their communication skills. The texts they bring to the center are a means to that end.«

USA – an inspiring example:
Many foreign universities, especially in the United States, have similar writing centers. At TUM, the »English Writing Center« is a pilot project of the »English Coaching Program«. Since 2010, weekly sessions of the »Writing Clinic« have been held at the three main TUM sites.
The "English Coaching Program" primarily helps to improve English teaching standards at the TUM. Tuition fees provided the funds required to launch this initiative in the summer term of 2010.
