The aim of the TUM International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) is to link the departments of natural science and engineering science at graduate and post-graduate level. With this in mind, interdisciplinary research projects connected with "Science & Engineering" are sponsored by doctoral scholarships and other schemes including financial support for studies/internships abroad and specialist symposia. The accompanying teaching programme is also geared to this goal.

Take, for example, the IGSSE workshops and lectures designed to acquaint engineers with scientific topics, and vice versa. Moreover, courses in general soft skills are just as much a part of the programme as seminars on theoretical aspects of science and practical assistance with submitting publications and research proposals.

The international orientation of the IGSSE programme is intentional and only natural. All offers of scholarships and post-graduate positions are accordingly addressed to the international scientific community. Both the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen (DTU) and Stanford University participate in the IGSSE research groups, for example. In addition, every IGSSE member is encouraged to complete at least three months of his or her doctoral studies abroad, for which the Graduate School also provides funding.

Please see www.igsse.tum.de for further details.

Based on the experiences with IGSSE TU München founded the TUM Graduate School in Spring 2009. TUM Graduate School supports Doctoral research as an umbrella organisation for the Thematic Graduate Centers and the Faculty Graduate Centers which are currently in the foundation process. The TUM Graduate School offers a variety of services to TUM doctoral candidates and contributes additional opportunities regarding key skills and internationality.
