Description of course of studies

In both research and education, Informatics at the TUM belongs to the top leading German universities. Not only with regard to the overall student situation but also in terms of reputation of the professors, research funds, and equipment, Informatics at TUM is right at the top in many university rankings. Students benefit from the good support and academic supervision and also complete their studies in a far shorter time compared with other German universities.

The study of Information Systems focuses on information and communication systems in industry and public administration. It comprises human as well as machine components. The term “information” here, points out that the main purpose of the system is to provide people or machines with information to control and perform activities of business processes. The word “communication” emphasizes the coordination between persons or machines. The core of Information Systems consists of design, development, introduction, usage and maintenance of business applications. The tasks of Information Systems graduates include the following activities: - planning, design, and implementation of business applications; - integration of business applications into organizations; - evolution of organizational concepts; - theoretical and applied research for the use of information technology in industry; - design of new methods and processes for the development of information systems; - marketing of hard/software products and product planning; - organization and implementation of training programs for the use of business information systems; - accepting executive tasks for EDP departments and projects (computer industry, consulting firms, or for users of information systems). Information Systems is an interdisciplinary course of study incorporating aspects of informatics and business administration. The study of Information Systems (Bachelor) integrates the teaching material of three pillars: Information Systems, informatics, and business administration. The fourth pillar is the fundamentals of mathematics which is essential to this study.
