The Technische Universität München offeres one single bachelor course of study “Physics”. It builds up several consecutive Master study courses.
Profile of BSc Physics at TUM:- Basic lectures in the first four semesters (experimental physics, theoretical physics, mathematics, chemistry, computational physics, soft skills)
- in preparation for the possible master studies in the future the 5th and 6th semester students chose one of the special subjects:
- Nuclear-, particle- and astrophysics
- Condensed Matter
- Biophysics
- Applied & Engineering Physics
Physics consists of the experimental investigation, measurement and mathematical depiction of natural processes, and is often of fundamental importance to other sciences. Since it is in a state of constant development, no single definition is able to do justice to the discipline as a whole. The challenges involved in working in physics require a creative spirit and the ability to solve complex problems. This in turn requires a broad level of training that also coaches flexibility and the ability to work in a team. Physicists are characterized by inquiring minds and a desire to determine and explain the origins and foundations of technical and natural processes, and are not only open to new ideas but also flexible in approach. This means that they find employment in a wide range of fields. Physics as a profession is not encountered outside research, but in the job world, practitioners are deployed in areas that benefit from their low degree of specialization and their openness towards new areas of inquiry. For this reason, physicists are to be found at consultant firms and in development departments, at insurance companies and research institutes, and at public authorities and software developers. More exact details cannot be provided due to the broad scope of the work, but it is this aspect that makes the study of physics so attractive.
