Germany’s economic future as a location for business depends on the international success of our manufacturing industry. Without the considerable production of goods in plant, mechanical and automotive engineering, in aerospace engineering and in energy and medical engineering, innovative new materials and manufacturing techniques could not be developed and many jobs would be endangered. In the industry, working processes include modern computer-aided product development, manufacturing, operations and disposal. In particular, multidisciplinarity is reflected in high-tech products as of high-performance materials, microelectronics and software, and is constantly posing new challenges to our understanding of technology. Mechanical engineers are responsible for this wide range of tasks. Engineers analyze and create ideas and solutions; they develop, test and create products, and ensure that they function properly for the benefit of society. Engineers consult, organize and carry out research in the technical sciences, which requires extensive knowledge. The Faculty for Mechanical Engineering, with its 30 institutes and 800 employees, offers students an attractive educational opportunity with a strong basis in the technical and natural sciences; it also has a broad scope that can be adapted to suit students’ personal interests, opening up solid career opportunities for them. The extremely modern yet very pleasant new faculty building at the Garching research facility provides excellent study conditions in well-appointed lecture halls and seminar rooms. About 3500 computers are available in the labs and training rooms for teaching and research.Curriculum (link)
