Description of course of studies

The availability of environmentally friendly, safe, reliable and affordable energy and raw materials is a basic requirement for a high standard of living. Global climate change and the shortage of fossil fuels (going hand-in-hand with significant price increases), the phasing out of nuclear energy and the uncertainty in politically unstable regions all shape our public discussion. Major challenges and changes are coming our way!

Energy and Process Engineering, the study of energy and material conversion processes, plays a central role in developing sustainable, ecological and economical solutions. Increasing the efficiency of turbo machines – gas and steam turbines, windmills, hydroelectric power plants – in creating energy is an important issue, as is reducing fuel usage for cars and airplanes. The use of new, sustainable fuels and the further development of solar energy and nuclear technology are creating plenty of work for energy engineers. In process engineering, people are developing processes and devices to create and/or convert resources using chemical, physical or biological processes.

In addition to its technological and economic relevance, the field of energy, propulsion and process engineering is full of exciting and challenging topics and approaches. For instance, advances in the areas of computer simulation and optical measurement technologies allow us to research fluid thermodynamic processes with a level of detail and depth that would have been impossible just a few years ago.

After completing the course of study, energy and process engineers can expect to enter a field of application that is wide-ranging, interdisciplinary and extremely significant.
