BioinformaticsCourse of studiesDegreeMasterDuration of study (semesters)4LanguageDeutsch, EnglischLocationMünchenDescription of course of studiesBioinformatics is a newly emerging interdisciplinary research area in which Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Genetics as well as Theoretical and Applied Computer Science merge into a new discipline. Bioinformatics plays already an important role in all areas of Life Sciences, in particular in Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences. Due to the explosive growth of biological data, e.g. in the context of national and international genome projects, Bioinformatics heaviliy relies on computational and mathematical methods. Modern Computer Science techniques permit the generation of mathematical models in Life Sciences, its efficient prediction, and the evaluation of these models. Progress in biological research is based more and more on techniques for modelling biological data, efficient algorithms to process biological data, and methods to extract relevant information from large biological data bases. Since methods of Bioinformatics are already industrially used and there are hardly any graduates in Bioinformatics so far, there is a high demand of skilled Bioinformaticians in industry as well as in research centers and universities.Curriculum (link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/courses/plansGuide to study (Link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/studium/studiumCourse of studiesBioinformatics (a joint study course offered by TUM and LMU)InternshipApplication and admissionApplicationEnrolment takes place at the LMUAptitude testyesStart of courseWinter and summer termApplication PeriodJuly 15 for winter term, January 15 for summer termAdmission notificationAugust for winter term; end of February for summer termApplication documentsFilled up application for admission, in case of submission of an application for an aptitude test always include a motivational letter or statement, university entrance diploma (certificate of qualification for university entrance in the form of a certified copy - or if necessary - a certified translation), curriculum vitae , a recent photographApplication documents (International students)copy of a (foreign) school leaving certificate or examination which qualifies the applicant to study at an institution of higher education in Germany (=Abitur), certified translation of the above document, passport-size photograph, CV with details of previous study (which institutions of higher education attended, examinations passed, etc.), proof of previous study, proof of German language proficiency upon enrolmentApplication form/ Online application (Link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/beginners/immaFurther information on admission procedure (link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/beginners/imma/Information | CounsellingAcademic counselingProf. Volker Heun; Dr. Angelika ReiserGeneral student counseling (Link)http://portal.mytum.de/studium/studienberatung/ContactStudienberatungStudy and examination regulationsConditions of study (Link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/studium/studium/fpoExamination regulations (Link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.de/courses/fpoExamination informationExamination and academic issues will be handled by the examination board.Examination Board (link)http://www.in.tum.de/fuer-studierende-der-tum/bachelor-studiengaenge/bioinformatik/pruefungsausschuss.htmlFurther linksWebsite of course of studies (link)http://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.deDepartment websitehttp://www.bioinformatik-muenchen.deWomen's representatives (link)http://www.in.tum.de/fuer-studierende-der-tum/frauen-maenner-chancengleichheit.html |
