MünchenDescription of course of studies
The course aims at training experts for innovative construction. At present, building technology is undergoing a radical change. More and more new high tech materials with properties tailored to the needs of modern construction requirements are being developed. The materials range from ultra-high strength concrete and high durability concrete to thermal insulation material based on phase-changes and nano construction materials with self-cleaning or photocatalytic surfaces. The modernisation, restoration and maintenance of structures requires construction materials with special properties whose development and application requires experts with specialist knowledge. The course Master of Science in Building Materials, Chemistry and Maintenance aims at training engineers with expertise in the science and technology of materials which, combined with building physics and construction methods, will enable them to solve modern construction problems. The future prospects for these students are excellent. A Master of Science in Building Materials, Chemistry and Maintenance at the Technische Universität München opens a broad field of professions. Depending on the particular field of study chosen, openings are in constructive engineering (engineering companies, consultants, building industry, administration, building in the private and public sectors), building materials research and development as well as the production and use of building materials (building materials and building chemistry industry, consulting, advisory services). Occupations are to be found in maintenance and servicing in, for example, planning offices and agencies, contractors and commissioners of large construction projects. The master course is open to all applicants who possess a bachelor or equivalent degree taken at a university or college of higher education. On account of the subject material, the course is of particular interest for civil engineers and architects as well as graduates from chemical engineering, engineering science, chemistry and geosciences, and related subjects.Curriculum (link)
