Description of course of studies

Multiplicity is central to structurally sound, project-oriented architectural design.

Architects at TUM devote their time holistically to complex systems, from the theoretical concept to the correlation and dimensioning of spatial areas through to the practical use of the large technical object, i.e. the building. Its energy balance and the development and design of building components and systems are work spheres that evolve, in the same way as robotics, during the course of the construction process. Holistic planning commences on a social and municipal level. Professors of Urbanistics are aware of this fact and make extensive provisions to accommodate it. Sustainability (research) topics are successively extended over and beyond the building project itself to include such matters as urban climate, building aerodynamics, mobility and infrastructure or energy cycles. Cultural heritage should not be regarded as an isolated aspect but as a key integral part of architecture.

There are plans to link the study program to a number of other engineering departments at TUM and international universities over the next few years. Starting with the winter semester 2009 /10, the Faculty of Architecture intends to convert the Diploma course into a multifaceted Bachelor's/Master's degree program.
