Description of course of studies
The interdisciplinary program ”Advanced Materials Science” combines the study of solid state chemistry, physics and advanced materials in a unique way. The international program offers to excellent students with degrees in chemistry, physics and materials sciences a multi-faceted training in the topical field of advanced materials, covering the range from nanoparticles to macroscopic matter.
World experts in this field from three Bavarian universities in the Munich/Augsburg area present basic and advanced courses which focus on the design, synthesis, functionality, characterization and theoretical modelling of new materials as well as the prediction and optimisation of their physical and chemical properties. With its tight schedule involving intense tutoring, project work, presentations by renowned international guest speakers, a spring school, and extensive practical training at leading industrial R&D units and production sites, the four-semester program will not only ensure top level education in the field of materials and nanotechnology, but will – in close cooperation with the Bavarian Elite Academy and the center for entrepreneurship of the Technische Universität München - also impart knowledge in related disciplines and offer problem-oriented training in soft skills such as project management and presentation. The program is designed to qualify particularly talented, motivated and dedicated students for academic and industrial careers. Successful participants will be awarded a Master’s degree (Master of Science), which will be a valuable asset for career advancement in a wide range of professions.
