Description of course of studies

Agriculture and horticulture are a foundation for modern civilization, an important cultural asset and a key economic driver. At the Center of Life and Food Sciences Weihenstephan we believe that strong academic training and research in this field are necessary to provide a lasting future.

Our graduate program is designed to provide you with in depth knowledge of agricultural systems and aims at training tomorrow’s scientists. We are looking for students with an excellent undergraduate degree interested in current research. Four different specializations towards plant sciences, animal sciences, environment and economy are offered. Students in this program are trained in up to date scientific methods. Furthermore they are expected to develope problem solving skills and the ability to conduct independent projects.

This degree program is aimed at graduates who have majored in agricultural sciences, economy, environmental studies, the natural sciences, or in life sciences.

During your studies you will complete a common curriculum providing basic scientific training with an emphasis on agricultural sciences. You may then choose from a broad range of electives directed both at your field of interest and common knowledge. This curriculum is complemented with hands on laboratory work and independent projects. Finally one complete semester is devoted to the master’s thesis as a graduation requirement.

Recent graduates of this program have acquired positions in research, government, agricultural administration and industries, plant breeding, consulting, financial services, and international organizations.
