Description of course of studies

As mankind demands ever more energy while our main resources are limited and scarce, their is growing need for research and qualified professionals in renewable, biogenic resources.

Our graduate program spans the complete value chain from plant breeding and crop production through industrial and energetic use of biogenic resources. This degree is aimed at students who have majored in engineering and natural- or lifesciences. Applicants are expected to be outstanding graduates in their field of study and to pursue a strong and broad interest in sciences and research.

The program is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the TU München which is world renowned for pure sciences and engineering and the University of Applied Sciences at Weihenstephan which provides a practical approach. This is combined to a well-rounded education both for students interested in research as well as students aspiring a career directly in the related industry.

You will start off with the neccessary fundamentals in biology, chemistry, engineerung, and economics and business administration. A further focus lies on the production of biogenic resources through agriculture and forestry, e.g. breeding, cropping, and harvesting. Following you will study ecology including sustainability, ecosystems, and stressphysiology. Emphasis is of course placed on the energetical and industrial use of renewable resources, which means for example electricity and energy conservation as well as biopolymers and biorefinery. Finally you will recieve a thorough overview of the political and economic aspects, management and marketing of biogenic resources. The final semester is solely dedicated to the master’s thesis required of every student.

Graduates will often choose a career in energy related industries, politics, agricultural administration and collaborations, research, and international organizations.
