Description of course of studies

Technology relating to medicine and health is a key future technology. For many years, it has been one of the most important growth industries. The world’s largest industrial groups, as well as hundreds of medium-sized companies, invest a significant amount in this area. Its development is supported by our increasing life expectancy. Complex imaging systems, computer-aided surgery, intelligent implants and tissue engineering are developing just as quickly as bio-compatible materials, textiles and their applications in operating rooms and home care. The goal of the Medical Technology and Engineering course of study is to train graduates who understand the current state of the art and the methodology of engineering, and who can apply these skills to research and development in order to create medical technology systems. The four-semester Master’s course of study deepens the skills acquired during the preceding program. In consultation with the examination committee, students choose a specialization among a large number of suggestions. The research-oriented course of study is also supplemented by practical courses. The course of study concludes with the Master’s thesis, in which students independently take on a project in the area of medical engineering.
