Description of course of studies

Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science is a full-time master’s program with a standard period of four semesters. This program requires a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a comparable.

A high-quality mathematical education, specifically in the fields of modern Probability Theory and Statistics, as well as in the fields of Optimization and Numerics, enables students to create and analyze complex models specifically suited to finance and actuarial mathematical assignments and to other general uses in economics.

The Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science course of study at the TUM is meant to prepare students pursuing future careers in: banks, insurance companies, public utilities, consulting companies and public authorities as well as in research and development departments of large corporations. Graduates of this course of study will be qualified to work in fields such as: Financial Engineering, Risk and Portfolio Management, Actuarial Science, Controlling, Marketing, Auditing, Tax Accounting and Commercial Data Processing.
