GarchingDescription of course of studies
The bachelor course Engineering Science will be offered as an intensive study program (210 ECTS) starting in winter semester 2010/2011. The course aims at prospective students who seek a broad and methodical scientific education without already committing themselves to one of the classical engineering disciplines at the beginning of their studies. Moreover, the course specifically addresses prospective students who aspire to become professionals at the intersections between different fields of engineering or newly emerging disciplines. Examples include mechatronics, process engineering (chemical, biological, pharmaceutical), medical technology, material sciences and software engineering, to name only a few. But likewise, students can continue their studies in one of the classical master programs offered at TUM (e.g. electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering). The utmost concern of the bachelor course Engineering Science is to teach students very broad basics in many engineering fields, without preferring one specific field or engineering practice. The focus set on mathematics and natural sciences goes far beyond that of classical engineering courses, while at the same time theory and practical elements are well-balanced within the curriculum. In the advanced study period (third year), students are free to choose from and thus to specialize in a broad spectrum of engineering subjects and emerging interdisciplinary fields.Curriculum (link)
