Description of course of studiesIn both research and education, Informatics at the TUM belongs to the top leading German universities. Not only with regard to the overall student situation but also in terms of reputation of the professors, research funds, and equipment, Informatics at TUM is right at the top in many university rankings. Students benefit from the good support and academic supervision and also complete their studies in a far shorter time compared with other German universities.
In the Master program Informatics students deepen their knowledge in various areas like e.g. Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Robotics. At the TUM there is the full spectrum of interesting fields in Informatics. Students will gain experience as well in research as in software constructing. With the comprehensive knowledge and skills acquired with a Master program in Informatics at TUM a broad and exciting field of professions opens up for graduates including leading positions in the industry. The job variety ranges from creating and managing information systems, designing and implementing production lines, implementing data bases to designing traffic control systems, planning the software architecture in cars and aircrafts, or simulating technical and administrative processes. The Master program also lays the basis for a scientific career.
The English speaking program in Informatics is fully integrated in the Department's Master's program in Informatics which offers courses in both English and German.
Major fields of studySoftware Engineering, Data Bases and Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Computer Graphics und Image Understanding, Computer Architecture, Distributed Systems and Computer Networks, Formal Methods and their Applications, Algorithms and Scientific Computing.

InternshipWhile industrial internships are not required, specialized lab courses are an integral part of the program.
Application and admission
Application period for winter semester: 01.01. - 31.05.
Application period for summer semester: 01.09. – 30.11.
Our online application portal TUMonline will create a checklist with documents you have to hand in. The checklist shows which documents you need for admission and for enrollment.
You must submit the signed application form and all documents you need for admission before the application deadline, i.e. before 31.05. for winter semester and before 30.11. for summer semester. If individual documents for admission are not available up to that date, you can hand them in until 15.08 for winter semester or until 15.2. for summer semester.
You must submit all documents you need for enrollment before 15.09. for winter semester or before 15.03 for summer semester. If individual documents for enrollment are not available at that date, you can hand them in up to five weeks after the start of the lecture period. However, we recommend that you submit all required documents well before the semester begins, as you will not be enrolled until all documents have been received.
