Description of course of studies

Nutritional Science is a many-sided subject with an interdisciplinary orientation that examines issues concerned with socioeconomic and consumer issues, technology, household and work organization. Due to the comprehensive nature of the course, graduates find employment in many fields. Their work ranges from providing information, advice, and further and advanced training to performing management, organizational and planning tasks. They are also often concerned with product development, quality assurance, quality management, marketing, distribution and sales. Nutritionists work in the service, education and medical sectors, at public authorities, industrial concerns, commercial undertakings and associations.An der TUM soll den Studierenden der Ernährungswissenschaft die Befähigung vermittelt werden, auf wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen unterschiedlicher Fachdisziplinen (Biowissenschaften, Medizin, Lebensmittelwissenschaft sowie Wirtschaft- und Sozialwissenschaften) zu einer integrierenden Bewertung von Nahrungskette und Humanernährung im ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Kontext zu kommen. Dies erfolgt im Hinblick auf ihre spätere Tätigkeit in den Bereichen Wissenschaft, Ernährungsmedizin, industrielle Produktion der life sciences, staatliche Überwachung der Lebensmittelsicherheit sowie Beratung öffentlicher und privater Träger des Gesundheitswesens.
