With a very high concentration of scientific competence in cartography and cartography-related fields, the program is outstanding worldwide. The Master of Science in Cartography in completely taught in English.

The Cartography program has been selected for the Erasmus+ scholarship program ‘Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree‘ of the European Union in October 2014. Therefore, highly remunerated scholarships might be awarded to the best students.

Through the cooperation of four leading universities in the field of cartography the combined comprehensive expertise enables a unique curriculum and provides an exceptional program with excellent job employment prospects. The program focuses on a broad education in cartography and geoinformatics, e.g., on spatial information technologies, mathematic principles of map making, spatial data handling, theories and technologies of geovisualization, visual analytics and communication of spatial information. Detailed information about the curriculum under: www.cartographymaster.eu

The Cartography program aims to educate students to become future engineers in cartography and to prepare them either for a career in the scientific or in the industrial field of cartography. A main goal of the Master of Science in Cartography is to spearhead the cartographic research not only in Europe but also worldwide. Thanks to the strategic partnership of the cooperating universities, innovative standards in international cartography education and research shall be set. Furthermore, the program improves the exchange of students and scientists worldwide.

Major fields of study

The program takes place at all cooperating universities and is conceptualized with a fixed structure. Students stay together as a group during the whole time and have to spend their 1st semester at TUM in Germany. Then they have to study the 2nd semester at TUW in Austria. After that they study their 3rd semester at TUD in Germany. During the 4th semester students prepare their Master’s thesis at one of the four participating universities.

The full-time Master program awards a total of 120 ECTS and is to be completed in two years. Students obtain 30 ECTS in each semester/at each university, respectively 30 ECTS for their Master’s thesis.
