Another focus in the program is the general production engineering and the bottling- and packaging. Besides these tasks, the planning and the design of production plants is very important. This broad education offers eligible qualifications with a basis of natural scientific, engineering and subject-specific knowledge. Possible fields of activity are not only jobs in breweries or beverage production plants, there are also many possibilities in laboratories, research institutes and companies, which are part of the whole value creation chain of the production of beverages.

Qualification profile (of the graduate)
For the preparation of the prospective profession, the students are led systematically from the basics to the specialization. Based on the natural scientific fundamentals, the main fields are both the process engineering and the brewing technology. The contents of the fields are:

Process Engineering
  • The understanding of unit operations
  • Utilities of production plants
  • Process steps of beverage production
  • Planning and realization of brewing plants
  • Production, bottling and packaging processes
  • Protection of the product against environmental influences
Brewing Technology
  • Characterization and production of Beverages
  • Microbiological, chemical-technical and sensorical evaluation of products
  • Application of fermentation technologies
  • Monitoring of the brewing process
  • Economics of beverage production processes

Major fields of study

The degree program lasts 6 semesters (180 Credits). Most of the modules are compulsory modules (140 Credits). In general the program is divided into the following two parts:
  • Fundamentals and Orientation Examination: The aim of this part is to create profound knowledge in natural sciences, which is necessary for the understanding of complex processes in engineering, biochemical correlations and scientific questions.
  • Bachelor’s examinations: specification in brewing technology, engineering and process engineering

Internship

Internship

The Bachelor’s program requires 12 weeks of professional practical internship. The first six weeks of professional practical internship have to be completed before the beginning of the studies. To prove an professional practical internship, an certificate of employment showing the details of your tasks and activities as well as the duration has to be presented at our study office before October 31st.
