Description of course of studies

The degree course in Architecture at Technische Universität München imparts knowledge and techniques that provide a sound footing for a professional architect's principal activities

Essentially, this aims to put students in a position to recognize, analyze and formulate problems – not only in their own field, but also in the multidisciplinary environment of the Technische Universität München – to devise concepts and solutions to problems of this kind using a clear-cut, scientific approach and finally to communicate the results of their work in a convincing way.

Thanks to the collaboration between the four institutes belonging to the Faculty for Architecture (Institute for Architectural Design and Modelling / Institute for History of Architecture, History of Art and Restoration / Institute for Architectural Design and Building Technology / Institute for Urban Design, Urbanism and Landscape), the students are trained to address complex systems holistically, from the theoretical concept and its cultural background to the correlation and dimensioning of technical and spatial components through to the practical use and appearance of large-scale technical objects, by which we mean buildings. Its energy household, its life-cycle and the development and design of building components and systems are work spheres that evolve over the course of the construction process. On a social, urban and regional planning level, sustainability questions are successively extended over and beyond the confines of the building itself to include such matters as climatics, mobility and energy cycles that will be of relevance in the future.

Applicants are expected to be hard-working high achievers. Each candidate will undergo an aptitude assessment test as part of the application process.
