Welcome to the Language Center at the TUM The Language Center offers students, staff members, and alumni of the TUM the opportunity to develop and improve their foreign language skills and expert language knowledge for academic purposes. Courses and seminars in eleven different languages are available during the semester. The overall program contains basic, intermediate, and advanced classes. Additionally, intensive courses are provided for some languages during the semester break. The program also includes intercultural communication courses and events to enhance intercultural discourse. Independent language study can be undertaken at the Self-Study Centers in Garching and Weihenstephan.

Attention! System changeover at the Language center! Restructure of TUMonline!
Registration on all upcoming courses in the winter semester 2010/11 will happen via TUMonline. The earliest possible registration date is October 5, 2010. Information on particular courses will be available approximately 2 weeks before that, also on TUMonline.

Pre-course online placement tests are only required for German as a Foreign Language, English, French and Spanish. The placement tests are available, as before, on the e-learning platform (www.elearning.tum.de).

These changes do not, however, apply to block courses and intensive courses during the semester holidays (July till mid-October 2010). Registration for these courses is still possible via the e-learning platform. The only exception to this is the German as a Foreign Language intensive course in October 2010 which carries a mandatory charge. Registration for this course must go through the Secretary’s office at the Language Center.
