Prerequisites for study for international applicants: language proficiency in German
A good knowledge of German is an important prerequisite for studying at the TUM. Proof of adequate proficiency in German is obligatory.
Exceptions
a) Degree courses in english have their own regulations for admissions !
b) Program students don't need a proof of adequate proficiency in German.
Recognised language certificates
- School-leaving/graduation certificate from a German-based or overseas German-speaking school or college
- German language proficiency diploma awarded by the Conference of Ministers of Education – Level II
- Certificate of aptitude assessment test for international applicants for admission to a university in the Federal Republic of Germany ( assessment test)
- The German examination certificate for German as a second language (Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber - DSH-Exam 2 or 3)
- A preliminary or advanced level German language diploma (Großes/Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom) and/or a central advanced level certificate (Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung of the Goethe Institute - ZOP)
- German language test II (Deutsche Sprachprüfung II) awarded by the Munich-based Institute of Languages and Interpreters (Sprachen- und Dolmetscherinstitut München)
- German as a foreign language certificate for international applicants (TestDaF) with at least a grade 4 pass at all four test levels
Deadlines
The following deadlines apply for submission of the certificate:
Bachelor courses
- for the wintersemester: 15th of July
- for the summersemester: 15th of January
Master courses
