ACCoMMODATION SErvICe fOr International StudenTS (Regular Students)

Rooms in halls of residence are allotted by the Students' Union, Munich. Each hall of residence has its own management office, which is the department responsible for the tenants of the student hall concerned. This is where the leases are signed, the keys are handed out, etc.

Please note: There is a waiting time of between one and four semesters depending on the hall of residence!

Important note! Exchange students cannot apply directly to the Studentenwerk for a room in a student hall. TUM has only a very limited number of student hall places available for international program students, and they are allotted by the International Office. If you have any questions, please get in touch with TUM's accommodation service (wohnraum@zv.tum.de) directly, not with the Studentenwerk, Munich!

Students on TUM Master's courses which are held exclusively in English should apply to the coordinator of the respective exchange program.

Once a room in a hall of residence has become available, you will receive an e-mail from the Studentenwerk, Munich containing all the relevant information regarding your room and a Declaration of Acceptance ("Annahmeerklärung“). If you definitely want to rent the room, please print out the document, sign it and sent it back either by fax or by post to the Studentenwerk. Your reservation will be cancelled if you miss the deadline. You sign the rental agreement on arrival at the management office of your hall of residence.

Please note!! The rental agreements are binding for one semester. It is not possible to cancel the lease during this term. The maximum rental period is 1 year (or max. 2 years for Double Degree students), provided the lease has been drawn up for the relevant period right from the start. There is no guarantee that the lease can be renewed at a later date.

Anyone who wishes to rent a room in a hall of residence without delay can apply for a so-called service package. This does not apply for exchange students or Master's students on TUM courses held in English but only for full-time students. We offer exchange students and those doing English-medium courses other options.

It may be difficult to find a room in Munich – especially at the start of the winter term during the months of October and November.
